Newly reupholstered Greaves & Thomas egg chair, a fine example of a mid-century classic.
This is a fine example of a Mid-Century classic egg chair. Greaves & Thomas were a London based furniture in Clapton, from 1911 till 1965. They were taken over by Schreiber furniture in 1967. The furniture from the 1960s was influenced by the style of modernist Danish designers, using clean geometries, teak wood, and smooth fabrics. This is a little piece of British history, brought up to date. It’s a stunning piece, not only would it look great in any room but it’s exceptionally comfortable.
All old foam has been removed and replaced with fresh, up-to-date fire-resistant foam. The solid wood legs were sanded back and oiled.
The copper-coloured feet are a little pitted and tarnished, in keeping with its age. It swivels smoothly.
The new top fabric is a rich, vivid lapis blue. It’s by the renowned Abraham Moon, very good quality. Self-covered wool buttons complete the look.
