Howard & Sons Ltd Antique Club Chair

This was a very sad chair, rescued by a customer from her relatives. The relatives were about to take it to the skip. It turned out to be rather special, a Howard & Sons Ltd Antique Club Chair. When chairs are made from good solid wooden frames they’re never too far gone. Once restored they’re as good as new, better in many cases.  What have you got hiding away that could be made fabulous again? Contact me

First I completely stripped the chair down to the wooden frame. I carried out some wood repairs and then fixed new webbing and springs. Next came horsehair and cotton stuffing, fire-resistant calico and then a lovely sage green denim, supplied by the customer. The customer chose feather-wrapped foam cushions, which give a sumptuous feel but require minimal plumping-the best of both worlds.
